Access Denied
server. This web application is to list out report items. When I call web
application in any client machine, error is always shown - 'The request
failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied'. But if I install the reporting
service and web application in same server, there is no problem. Can anyone
help me ?Open the RSWebApplication.config file with a text editor. The first few
lines of the file will be similar to the following:
<Configuration>
<UI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://servername/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
</UI>
Replace the text between <ReportServerUrl> and </ReportServerUrl> with the
complete address that should be used to access the Reports website like,
<Configuration>
<UI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://www.xyzname.com/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
</UI>
or with IP address
<Configuration>
<UI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://192.162.x.y/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>
</UI>
Hope this helps,

Access DB vs. SQL server
ThanksPersonally, unless the application makes very light use of the database, Access will get crushed by 700 simultaneous users, even Web users.|||Thanks. Given that I'm only comfortable with Access right now, do you think SQL server is the way to go for me?|||I personally like SQL Server. The terminology and tools are different, even though they are both from Microsoft, but SQL Server is about the easiest to use full server based database system I have used. You can attach to the SQL Server database to edit/query data if you are more comfortable using Access, though for database schema changes, etc, you will need to use Enterprise manager or similar tools.

|||You need to work with your host on this. They have most likely NOT given you a database folder for your SQL Server database, as this would imply that they would allow you to use SQL Express 2005, which most hosts would not do. They have instead likely given you space on their SQL Server. You would need to connect to this SQL Server and transfer your database to it.|||

Access a in house sql server from a remote web server
Seewww.connectionstrings.com. You put the IP where you normally put the Server name, all else should be the same. That said, hitting a SQL Server on the other side of a firewall may not be the best thing to do.|||thanks
"That said, hitting a SQL Server on the other side of a firewall may not be the best thing to do."
what you recommend then, like I said, I'm pretty new to this. Theproject that I'm working on requires me to create a web form, that ison an outsourced web server, and import the data into our database thatis behind a firewall. Would this be a security issue?
|||Yes, it can be. If SQL Server was perfect, it would not be a problem to leave the SQL port open. SQL Server is not perfect (recall the Slammer virus). So, in the circumstances you describe, perhaps it is your only option. However, I would make very certain that the database server is always patched up to date.sql

Accesing the SQL Server 2005
Hi,
I have a asp.net 2.0 web applicaiton which is connecting to the remote SQL server 2005. When I run the Web app, then Iam connecting to the DB and its displaying the records on the page.
When I browse the same page from the IIS, then iam getting the following error:
"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'mydomain\user' "
Connection string :
connectionString="Data Source=MySystem;Initial Catalog=DBLive;Integrated Security=SSPI;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
Please let me know if find accross a solution for this...
Thanks
Vaskam
Verify the 'user' assigned to the Web Servers' AppDomain.
Somewhere, you seem to have assigned the security to 'mydomain\user' -I hope that your domain is NOT called 'mydomain' and that you do NOT have a user named 'user'.

About Web service or HTTP ENDPOINT
Hi All,
I met some problems when I walk through a example for Native Http SOAP in SQL Server 2005 for Developers. after I create the HTTP EndPoint in the Management Studio using following code:
USE AdventureWorks
GOCREATE PROCEDURE EmployeePhoneList
AS
SELECT C.LastName, C.FirstName, C.Phone
FROM Person.Contact AS C
INNER JOIN HumanResources.Employee AS E
ON C.ContactID = E.ContactID
ORDER BY C.LastName, C.FirstName
GODROP ENDPOINT HRService;
GOCREATE ENDPOINT HRService
STATE = STARTED
AS HTTP
(
PATH='/HumanResources',
AUTHENTICATION=(INTEGRATED),
PORTS=(CLEAR)
)
FOR SOAP
(
WEBMETHOD 'EmployeePhoneList'(name='AdventureWorks.dbo.EmployeePhoneList'),
DATABASE='AdventureWorks',
WSDL=DEFAULT
)
then I can see the web service is indeed created by using following cmnd,
SELECT *
FROM sys.endpointsSELECT *
FROM sys.soap_endpoints;SELECT *
FROM sys.endpoint_webmethods;
but when I want to use the web service in the VS2005, I can't find it and add the web reference. Any help will be greatly appreciated. and could you please tell me how to check web services in the local computer? Thanks.
Chris
Can you try http://yourmahine/HumanResources?wsd in your browser address bar and see if you can get the wsdl document in xml?
|||No, I couldn't get the description for the web services, just a "page not found" like error.
In fact, when I run SQL to create HTTP EndPoint, I have to stop the web server first. after the execution of the SQL, I got an internal error from IIS if I restart the server. even though I restart the computer and web server, I still couldn't get the web services description.
I talked with some programmers, none of them use web services directly from sql server2005. and I notice there is few articles about it in the forum. Maybe microsoft just create this funtion for fun?
Anyway, Thanks a lot for you information. Hope get more help from you.
Chris
|||Chris,
There's a small typo in Nan's post. The url is http://servername/HumanResources?wsdl
His post missed the 'L' at the end. Also, I'm assuming you are using the same user to retrieve the WSDL document as the user who created the endpoint. If not, you will need to grant the user permissions. "GRANT CONNECT on ENDPOINT::<name> to [user]".
HTH
Jimmy
Sorry for the typo. The wsdl url should be http://servername/HumanResources?wsdl. If you can't get the wsdl xml document, please post the error code, 4XX or 5XX.
|||I'm using IIS 5.1 on WindowsXP SP2. and I'm using the same user account for creation and access the WS.
the error code is HTTP 404 - File not found. Thanks.
Chris
|||Ah, since you are running on a WinXP SP2 box, please make sure that IIS is not running. SQL 2005's native web serivces uses the OS HTTP kernel mode listener, which is introduced in WinXP SP2 and W2k3, but the IIS 5.1 on WinXP OS does not make use of it. This causes a port contention.
The alternative is to create the endpoint on a different port (ie. port 8080 or 88), such that the request does not end up going to IIS.
Jimmy
|||I had the exact same problem. I found the answer at the following URL. I have excepted the piece that helped get me on the right path.

4.1.18 Remote Connections to a SOAP/HTTP Endpoint May Fail Using Integrated Authentication
Remote connections to a SOAP/HTTP endpoint may fail when the SQL Server service account is a domain account and authentication for the endpoint is set to INTEGRATED, even though local connections succeed. The problem can occur when the Service Principal Name (SPN) is registered to the local system account. You can work around the issue by either registering an SPN for the SQL Server Service account or specifying NTLM authentication for the endpoint. For more information about registering an SPN, see "Registering Kerberos Service Principal Names by Using Http.sys" in SQL Server Books Online.
Then in SQL Books I found the following;
To support mutual authentication under Kerberos, an instance of SQL Server 2005 must associate a Service Principal Name (SPN) with the account it will be running on, such as a local system account or domain user account. The specific details for SPN registration by a specific instance of SQL Server 2005 are determined by the type of service account it has been configured under. If SQL Server 2005 is running under the local system account or network service account, SPNs must be registered under the computer name. If SQL Server 2005 is running under a domain user account, SPNs must be registered under the domain user name.
Using SetSPN.exe
To enable association of an SPN to the account that the instance of SQL Server 2005 is running on, use the Windows SetSPN.exe support tool. The tool adds the SPN for the computer name on which the instance of SQL Server 2005 is running under the Windows domain service user account located in Active Directory. In this scenario, the SetSPN.exe tool can be used to add two SPNs: one for the NetBIOS name and another for the fully qualified DNS name.
For example, if the SetSPN.exe tool is executed from instance of SQL Server 2005 running on MyComputer, the following two SPNs are associated with the account the instance of SQL Server is running under and must be added to directory:
HTTP/MyComputer.fully.qualified.domain.name.com
If an instance of SQL Server is running as a domain user (MyDomain\MySQLAccount) on a computer that is named MySQLHost, the following commands can be used to set the appropriate SPNs:
setspn –A http/MySqlHost.Mydomain.Mycorp.com MyDomain\MySQLAccount

About SQL
Hello to everybody,
I'm learning to work with SQL, Actually I have a web site in a hosting service which setup a monthly fee for the use of a SQL Server database. I would like to know if there is a problem because I have Windows XP Home Edition most of the time I have read that it should be Windows XP professional.
No, SQL Server should work fine on XP Home. XP Pro has a web server built in and Home does not, most of the differences between the two relate to networking.

About ReportViewer Control
I build a web page,display a report with ReportViewer ,I set its height 100% ,but the page doesn't display anything, why?
thanks for any helps.
Can you attach an RDL (or .rdlc) file with report definition to this post?
Thanks,
|||100% height doesn't work. For a description, see http://www.gotreportviewer.com (FAQ #14).
This is on my list of things to figure out, but just haven't had the time. It must be possible since it works in the MS Report Manager and the Dundas demo (http://demos2.dundas.com/ReportingServices/).
What I would like to find is a sample asp.net application that interfaces with the reportviewer by resizing the height and modifying report parameters.

Chris
Did you find your answer? I've been through this a little now and would be happy to help.
If, in Visual Studio, you add a web reference, you'll be asked a location in the form of a URI. In the example that you show, the URI would be something like http://localhost/HumanResources?wsdl, which, when entered, should result in the finding of services and a proposed reference name of localhost ... which you can name to something else. The default namespace that will be created in your VS project will be something like <NameOfYourProject>.localhost ... or whatever you renamed it to be.
If you use an Object Viewer to look at the contents of the namespace, you'll see a couple of clients generated ... one something like HRService, and the other HRServiceWse. From here, I would suggest you follow the link http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=536560&SiteID=1&mode=1, since this picks up from there.

About Data algorithms
I just want to know what are the data algorithms available for sql server 2005 and can i use data mining as a web service

SQL Server Data Mining can be used as a web service (by sending XML/A requests inside SOAP payloads). A (live) sample for this can be found here: http://www.sqlserverdatamining.com/XMLAThinMiner/
Our client APIs (OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services, Adomd.Net, AMO) can also be used to conect to an Analysis Services HTTP end point. In this context, the web service communication part is encapsulated in our APIs, so your application does not need to distinguish between locally-accessible servers and HTTP end points (other than providing the appropriate connection string)
About Custom SiteMapProvider
Hi,
i used the custom sqlsitemapprovider which is in this web :http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/06/02/wickedcode/default.aspx?loc=&fig=true#fig5 but in this sample they used sqlsitemapprovider as a default sitemapprovider i dont wanna use it as a default and i wanna send a paramater which is used to filter datas to that class. I modified that class and i can take a sitemapprovider back and i wanna show it a sitemappath data source programmaticaly. i wanna create an instance object of sitemappath datasource and i wanna bind it to that class and then i wanna add a treeview control to the page then i wanna bind it to the sitemapdatasource programmaticaly too..
Thanks for your attetion.
Regards...
Ok i made it
if you wanna learn how i made it :
just write them written below in the specified area :
in web.config:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="SiteMapConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=Sorular;Integrated Security=True;Pooling=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>
<system.web>
<caching>
<sqlCacheDependency enabled="true"/>
</caching>
<siteMap>
<providers>
<add name="SiteMapBenYazdim" type="SqlSiteMapProvider" connectionStringName="SiteMapConnectionString"></add>
</providers>
</siteMap
codebehind:
SiteMapDataSource data = new SiteMapDataSource();
data.SiteMapProvider = "SiteMapBenYazdim";
TreeView1.DataSource = data;
TreeNodeBinding bind = new TreeNodeBinding();
bind.TextField = "Title";
bind.ToolTipField = "Description";
bind.ValueField = "Url";
bind.SelectAction = TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand;
TreeView1.DataBindings.Add(bind);
That it man.i have been working on that damn thing about 2 days. And thanks God finally i made it..
treeVeriTabani.Provider = sitemap;
TreeKonular.DataSource = treeVeriTabani;
TreeNodeBinding alanlar =newTreeNodeBinding();alanlar.TextField ="Title";
alanlar.ValueField ="Url";alanlar.ToolTipField ="Title";
alanlar.SelectAction =TreeNodeSelectAction.SelectExpand;TreeKonular.DataBindings.Add(alanlar);
Page.DataBind();
Ok thats it
About AMO
I write web service with .NET 2.0.
It's using AMO to connect SQL Server 2005 and show counts of database.
When I excute the program under debug mode in my computer for testing,it's showing the correct counts.
But when I establish this web in the server,and browse it to use, the showing counts is zero.
Could some tell me why?
Thanks~
Server OS: Windows 2003
My Computer OS: Windows XP
follow is program:
Code Snippet
<WebMethod()> _
Public Function Test() As String
Dim ConnectServer As New Server
Dim tmp As String
ConnectServer.Connect("Data Source = olapdw;Provider = MSOLAP;")
tmp = ConnectServer.Databases.Count
ConnectServer.Disconnect()
ConnectServer.Dispose()
Return tmp
End Function
It's most likely a security / authentication issue. AMO uses windows authentication, so running on your local machine might be running under your account. So it probably depends on what account is configured to run the application pool that your web service is running under. You can set up impersonation, but if the web service and IIS are on separate machines, you need to configure Kerberos authentication.
You also do not use a connection string for AMO, the connect string only needs a server name.
eg.
ConnectServer.Connect("olapdw")
|||Thanks, my problem has already resolved.
