Access Denied Error

I'm running SQL Server 2000 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. We have sp3 o
n
SQL. I am getting an error when I query against my views. The views use a
linked server that grabs data from FoxPro dbf files located on the same
machine.
In resolving a memory issue, we disabled the 'Allow InProcess' setting on
the OLE DB for ODBC Drivers provider. I don't think this has anything to do
w/ the access denied error because I enabled 'Allow InProcess' to test it an
d
then disabled again when I got the error.
The error message is:
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. Access denied.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' IUnknown::QueryInterface
returned 0x80070005: Access denied.].
The account is a domain account that is part of the administrators group on
the server. It is also a System Administrator role in SQL.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, PhilPhil,
The obvious things to check are that the account running SQL Server
(which is likely not your Windows account) has the proper permissions
on the files in question, and that you are referring to them in a way that
is correct for that account (not using a drive letter defined at logon for
your own Windows account, for example)
Next, you could try a different way of accessing the linked server data.
Try an alternative among the 4-part name lnksrv.database.owner.table,
OpenQuery, OpenRowSet, or OpenDataSource. If there is another
provider besides MSDASQL, try it.
Beyond that, unfortunately, most newsgroup threads with this question
end with
no resolution. :( My best guess is to try adding this registry key,
though I'm not
certain this works for an arbitrary provider.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MS
SQLServer\Providers\MSDASQL\Disallow
AdhocAccess
Make this a REG_DWORD with value 0.
Here is a link to a few dozen newsgroup threads on this issue - maybe
you'll find something.
http://groups-beta.google.com/group...rface+sqlserver
If you resolve this problem, please let us know!

Access 2003 / SQL Server 2005 linking.

I have an Access 2003 database that I have split, then upsized to SQL Server

connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that

Now I have done everything suggested by Microsoft's documentation

Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

Same error I was getting.
My problem was caused by an alias set up in client network utility to the
server.
I just deleted the alias and then Access connected fine.

Accesing database after website deployment

Hi

I'm using sqlexpress on development machine and on client server. I'm building a webapp using membership and role provided for asp. In web.config I have definet membership provider and role provider to point to my database.

After web site deployment I get allways message : Failed to update database "c:\app\app.MDF" because the database is read-only, and I'm forced to apply rights for ASPNET. More than that somethimes I must re-register users.

I have tried to modify in web.config with <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer"...> but I get errors if I try to design my dataset file:"Cannot get web application service".

TIA

Paul

To manipulate the database file, the account used to connect to the database must have read/write permission on the folder where the database file locates.|||Do you get other error message? I guess the problem is permission.|||

Hi

I think the problem is when I use SourceSafe, all folders in projects are maded read only.

Sometimes I get some error about NT Serveces does not have right on database, but that eror I have fised from SQL .

Paul

I agree with you.You should add NT Service to access some folders in security.Change your database file property not to readonly.

What about this?

I don't need to run SPS and SQL 2K on the same machine so it would be no
problem to overwrite MSSearch
Is it safe to do it?
Thanks

The binaries for the version of MSSearch which ships Sharepoint 2003 are
radically different from the ones which ship with SQL 2000 FTS. I would not
advise you to do this.

Absolute path information is required. (mscorlib)

Installed SQL2005 Advisor on a XP Professional machine.
I get this message when I launch the program.
Absolute path information is required. (mscorlib)
Please help, I need to resolve it.
I did a quick search and could not find that exact error msg but it looks
like a problem with the .net framework install. You might try uninstalling
the .net framework and reinstalling it. Make sure you are using the latest
version of the Advisor tool and the latest .net2.0 framework, not any Betas.

On http://www.sqldev.net/xp/xpsmtp.htm there is section called installation
which details how to install the extended stored procedure. The other
examples of how to call the extended stored procedure can be cut and pasted
into query analyser... but at a guess you have MSDE, in which case paste an
example into a text editor and save the file to run from osql. If you do
have MSDE then you may want to look at

I can't say I am a SMTP expert so others might want to chip in!
I am not sure how you would handle authentication as the procedure doesn't
have these parameters. One way may be to have a local server that relays the
mails to the remote server. This would have to be set up so that others
could not hijack your SMTP server! Windows 2000/IIS comes with a SMTP
server.
Some Routers/Firewalls will not reply to PINGS to avoid DOS attacks. You may
want to try telnet, but there is also a @.Ping parameter to xp_smtp. Check
that you should be using the default port, if not may need to specify a
different port using the @.port parameter.

xp_smtp_sendmail is the extended stored procedure (a DLL file) that you
download from www.sqldev.net and register in SQL Server according to the
instructions on that site.
sp_smtp_sendmail is a wrapper for the call to this stored procedure... you
can simplify the number and/or order of parameters. I have a wrapper for
xp_smtp_sendmail called smtpmail which has only a few of the parameters
(because I don't use many of the functions that come with the xp).

The news server adjusts your posting time (according to your time zone) to
the reader's time zone settings. This is why *most* threads appear to occur
in chronological order; however, if my reply shows up 7 1/2 hours before
your initial post (what does *your* newsreader tell you are the times of my
previous reply, and your message that I replied to?), then either your clock
is fast, or your time zone is incorrect. For more information, see:
http://www.aspfaq.com/5005
http://www.aspfaq.com/2257|||Thanks for your explanation about the procedure name.
You are really a MVP. My time zone was not correct, which was: (GMT)
Casablanca, Monrovia. Now I correct it.
thanks,

I think that is a good way to me. But my current condition is not good
enough to do it so that I have to do it later. Anyway I appreciate your
great help and I do learn a lot from you.

about MSSQLSERVER run as LocalSystem

Hi,it is fail when I try to open a namedpipe of another machine in sql2000's
extern storage procedure.
WNetAddConnection2() return 1312
CreateFile() return -1 and GetLastError() return 5
MSSQLSERVER is running as LocalSystem.
If MSSQLSERVER login using a user account, the extern storage procedure can
open the namedpipe of another machine.
Why? someone can give me a little explanation.
Thanks
RateIf you need a SQL Server to be able to access other network
resources, including other servers, SQL Server needs to be
running under a domain account. Local System doesn't have
access to network resources.

Ratehi,
localsystem account doesn't have network priviledges. this is a security
feature.

about connections and Login

Hey guys,

I have created dtsx packages and i have one master package which would run couple of child packages.

1. I have all on my local machine.I want others who r working with me access these. So what do i need to do?for them to access...

2.what would be the best way in executing these packages.

the way it is set now is i had 3 connections set for each package.

a.Source connection

b.Destination Connection.

c.One more connection(which is used with in the process of execution)

Can i set connections in common for all the packages in one location.

3.i also want to set some logging settings to my master package too.and i want this package to run everyday automatically at a particular time how can this be done.

How can i do that.

please let me know.

sureshv wrote:

What you mean, to edit them? just use VSS or place them in a shared location. To execute them, place them in a shared location and then set up a Job (SQl Agent) to run them.

sureshv wrote:

Via SQL Agent job would be my preferred method

sureshv wrote:

No, but you can use package configuration instead.

sureshv wrote:

To schedule them, again, use a SQL Agent Job. For logging just enable package logging.
