Absolute position or location of report table.

Hello,

I have a report that prints cards for customers. The body of the report contains an address box, letter body, followed by a table that contains all the people to be printed on the cards. If the number exceeds 6 people, another page is to be printed, with no address or letter body, but the table with the remainder of the people on it.

I have been able to get everything to work except for the location of the table on the subsequent pages. They do not appear at the bottom as they do on the first page, but at the top of the page. I've tried using a rectangle as a container for the table, with no luck.

I seem to remember doing this in the past, but as projects get shelved for an extended period of time, the technical knowledge tends to fade. Smile

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried setting both PrintOnFirstPage and PrintOnLastPage to true? This is described here:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa178940(SQL.80).aspx

If you don't want header labels to show on the second and subsequent pages, then put them all inside of one container element and set its Hidden property to true if the PageNumber is > 1. This way the header area will still be rendered but everything in it is invisible.

sluggy

absolute position on page

when i put a table beside 2 graphs on my report, as the table expands it pushs the bottom table down ONLY when when it's displayed on the final webpage. the preview features shows it as being correct.

how do i prevent the expanding table from pushing the tables BESIDE it down? i could understand if it was a table below it, but it's not.

Hi,
Try putting all the components inside the Rectangle.But i dont think it will stop the expansion of Tables.But try implementing that way and see
In your case put Graphs,2 Tables inside the Rectangle and verify.|||ok what i tried, was putting the table inside a rectangle. by my understaning the table will expand inside the rectangle ? it seems like my rectangle is what's pushing down my bottom graph?|||

Hi

I'm having this problem also.

If I have many tables, differently positioned on one report.

Than tables that are higher positioned in design mode push all tables when in view mode (rendered), that are lower positioned, regardless wether they are directly beneath or beside !

I've tried to use rectangles but that doesn't matter,

Any advices ?

absolute path information is required

Hi all,
When i transfer my c#.net project to other computer,the report part of my project that worked correctly in my computer,did not work and give me this error :
"absolute path information is required"
what is my problem? i use access database for my reports
I try to create a blank report with no database,but i get this error again.
thanks for your help.Would you please send your code for loading, showing report.
I want to know, if you used untypedreport or typedReport,
WebApplication or windows application.|||public class ReportForm : System.Windows.Forms.Form
{
Thread waitThread;

ProgressBarForm pb;

private CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.CrystalReportViewer reportViewer;

private Reports.PulseReport pulseRpt = new Swiching.Reports.PulseReport();
private Reports.AllPulseReport allpulseRpt = new Swiching.Reports.AllPulseReport();
...
...
...

public ReportForm(string type)
{
InitializeComponent();
this.reportViewer.ReportSource = this.pulseRpt;
}

public ReportForm(string type,FileConnect.customer[] p,string bdLabel)
{
InitializeComponent();

waitThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(wait));
waitThread.Start();
int temp;

TextObject beginRp = (TextObject)this.allpulseRpt.Section1.ReportObjects["beginRp"];
beginRp.Text = bdLabel;

OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection();
conn.ConnectionString =@."......Data Source=""Swiching.mdb""......";
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand();
cmd.Connection = conn;
conn.Open();
string ffirst = Config.GetNum("FirstNum");
string fcap = Config.GetNum("CapNum");

for(int counter = 0;counter < int.Parse(fcap);counter++)
{
temp = int.Parse(ffirst)+counter;
cmd.CommandText = @."insert into pulse values("+temp.ToString()+","+p[counter].city.ToString()+","+p[counter].intercity.ToString(+","+p [counter].national.ToString()+")";
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

}
conn.Close();
this.reportViewer.ReportSource = this.allpulseRpt;

}

private void wait()
{
pb = new ProgressBarForm();
pb.ShowDialog();
}

private void ReportForm_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
pb.Close();
}

}

When i transfer my project to other computers and call ReportForm with each of above constructors i get "absolute path infomation is required" error.|||Hi.
Where do you load report? Is it typedReport?
I read your code. But I didn't understand where you set datasource of report. It seems you connect to database directlly.

I am sorry. I don't know reason. But you can examin
Initialize reportClass PulseReport in constructor, no difinition.
Try showing report without any datbase fields.
Trace code to find exact line of error
load report by using path, not instance of typedreportdocument.|||Try hardcoding the path into your connection string
Data Source=""Swiching.mdb""......";

should be

Data Source=""D:/anywhere/data/Swiching.mdb""......";|||Hi all and thanks for your reply

I add following code after InitializeComponent() :

crConnectionInfo.ServerName = Application.StartupPath + @."\swiching.mdb";
crDatabase = allpulseRpt.Database;
crTables = crDatabase.Tables;
for (int i = 0; i < crTables.Count; i++)
{
crTable = crTables [i];
crTableLogOnInfo = crTable.LogOnInfo;
crTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = crConnectionInfo;
rTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo);
}

Then I try to install my program on 6 computers and i found that only two computers have this problem and my report run correctly on other computers !!!
All computers have Windows XP SP2.

Dear zdehkordi ,i load report by following code in other form :

if(type == 1)
{
ReportForm rf = new ReportForm("AllPulse",p,bdLabel,edLabel);
rf.Show();
}|||Sounds like the directory structure is different on those two computers.
How does it differ from the others?
Are all the components in the right place?
Is Application.StartPath declared and valid?

absolute object position

I have a table that expands and pushes down objects under it, i don't want this to happen i want my objects to use an absolute position so i can jiggle things how i want them - this doesn't seem to be an option in SSRS 2005?

Did not get your point yet, do you mean, you need data in a static place ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer.

yes. when i place objects on my report. it moves stuff all over the place in crazy ways at times. often different depending on the export format!

I just want to set a static/absolute position and have tables etc stay there.

Absolute Newbie Question

Hi guys! I'm a complete beginner of this and have just started learning scripting recently therefore I hope anyone here could give me some help.

Basically this is what I've done already, I have an ASP form here for user to fill in, then a confirm page (displaying the form data) is shown when the user's submitted the form.

Now, the next step I'd like to do is to store those data into a database (MS SQL Server 2000) when the user hits the confirm button in the confirm page. Since I've no experience of using SQL Server or doing anything like this before, can anyone please kindly tell me where to get started or where to find some good examples/tutorials?

Thanks very much in advance!Hai friend

Absolute Beginner Questions

I just downloaded and installed Visual Basic Express Edition and SQL Server Express Edition. All I have in the Start menu is SQL Configuration Tools. My absolutely stupid question is, how do I get started with this?

I know a little bit about SQL from using SQL command line in Oracle, and I've built small databases before using Access. Where does this program fit into all of that? And what do I use and how can I get started with this program?
Hi there,
What you've probably installed is only the database engine and probably the command line utilities. You could connect and work with your databases via the command line but it's easier doing it via a GUI. Couple of options:
A) You can download SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
This'll give you a GUI where you can connect to the database server (which you have installed already) and you can work with and create databases in it.
B) It is also possible to create and work with your database using Visual Basic Express Edition. Generally you'll create a project first (e.g. a Windows Application) and then you'd create a database for your project. The steps are:

1) In the Solution Explorer right click on the name of the solution and select Add > New Item from the menu that appears
2) The "Add New Item" window will appear. In this window select the "SQL Database" template. Change the name of the database's .mdf file to whatever you prefer.
Click "Next>" after doing the above
3) Select whatever database objects you want in your dataset (I select everything that's available but it does depend on what you want). Click the "Finish" button
After doing all of this a database local to the project you are working with will be created. If you open up Database Explorer (View Menu > Database Explorer or View Menu > Other Windows > Database Explorer) you should see you database. You can then do things like create tables for your DB and make an application that connects to your database and does, well, stuff (sorry).

As for learning more about it, try reading some stuff at:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/express/
They should give you some overview of the product. The Developer Center (2nd link) might give you some ideas to get started in coding database apps with VB Express Edition.
There's also a white paper that might help get you going with Management Studio Express at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/f/8/4f8f2dc9-a9a7-4b68-98cb-163482c95e0b/MgSQLExpwSSMSE.doc
Hope that helps a bit, but sorry if it doesn't

Absolute Beginner in SQL 2005 EE, needs help.

Hi everyone.

Using C# 2005 EE with SQL 2005 EE

I am really new to SQL, got qns here.

    Can my program with SQL database run correctly on another com using win xp home edition, with only C# 2005 EE installed?

    Is it compulsory for every table in a database to have a primary key?

    Can I extract a data from a specific cell in a database table(click button get data)? How do I go about doing it (the simplest n straight forward method)?

Many Thanks in advance.

Regards,

dragoncells.

Hi !

"Can my program with SQL database run correctly on another com using win xp home edition, with only C# 2005 EE installed?"

YOu compiled application (The actual exe you produce with compiling) will work on every computer which has the requisites installed that you need in your application (at leat the .NET Framework). If you using an installer instead of Xcopy deployment you can also package the prerequisites ensuring that the client will fullfill the requirements.

"Is it compulsory for every table in a database to have a primary key? "

Thats all about database design, primary keys will help you to keep unique integrity throught he database and integrity with the other tables using PK/FK relations. They help you (and behind the scenes the SQL Server) to create and retrieve data by a unique identitifer.

"Can I extract a data from a specific cell in a database table(click button get data)? How do I go about doing it (the simplest n straight forward method)?"

I am not quite sure what you mean, but from my understanding you want to retrieve an specific attribute (your cell) from a row in a table. Therefore you will have to create a SQL query like the following one:

SELECT YourAttributeName_Column FROM YourTable Where <filter the row out by specifying the condition like SOmeCOlumn = 'SomeValue'>

Additionally info about me: I am also Absolute Beginner in C# 2005 EE.

I assume you are telling me that if my application has a SQL database than I must have SQL server 2005 EE installed on that computer for it to work.

And what do you mean by Xcopy deployment?

Installer? I thought when I publish the application it comes with the installer?

**Note**
I replied to Jens post(1:27pm) but it does show properly.

You don′t need to have a SQL Server on the actual machine if you have another server in the network you want to connect to. Assuming that another server in the network act as a SQL Server you don′t have to install the SQL Server Express on the client machine.

"And what do you mean by Xcopy deployment?"
Xcopy deployment is possible because if the .NET framework is installed on the client machine no other things have to be registered like in the old days. YOu can just copy the application over (and also overwrite it with a newer version and it will work.

"Installer? I thought when I publish the application it comes with the installer?"
I don′t know which project type you are using. You will need an installer if you use components which do not easily install by just copying the files over, or if they have to be "installed" or copied in a different way.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

That means Xcopy deployment is obsolete nowadays.

Using C# 2005 EE, working on a windows application project. When I publish my application it does come with a installer automatically?

|||No and no as the answer :-)

"That means Xcopy deployment is obsolete nowadays."
Seems that my description was too fuzzy. It is absolutely nice that you can do Xcopy deployment. Assuming that you want to update your application or an assembly within the application you just have to copy it over. Thats often used instead of uninstalling the old version and installing a new one.

A Windows application does not come automatically with a installer project. You will have to add one and will have to add the output files of your project solution to the installer project.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de|||

Than what about the Publish properties, isn't it suppose to add a installer after I publish my application?

Does the forum have a suggestion area or something, so that microsoft can collect useful suggestions and try to improve the forums?
