Hi,
we have an app running in a network where the MSDE database is running on
win XP Pro PC. This has been running perfect since january but after
installing XP SP2 we get "SQL server does not exist or access denied" when
trying to run the app from a client. The app runs fine when started on the
server.
See my reply to "MSDE over the network". You may need to apply SP3 to MSDE.
Also, check the Windows Firewall in control panel and make sure that there
is an exception for sqlservr.exe or adjust the firewall accordingly to allow
incoming connections and broadcast packets from MSDE.

|||Thanks Jim,
making an exception for sqlserver.exe solved it!

Access 2003 database upsizing to SQL Server Express
Is it possible to upsize an Access 2003 database to SQL Server Express without actually installing Access 2003 on my server....I would prefer to not have to do that. Currently, I only have the Access mdb file on the server...it is the backend to my ASP application. Can I download and run the Upsizing Wizard on it's own?
Thanks in advance,
Kris.
Currently the upsize wizard is only available as part of of Access, the SQL team is working on making a standalone solution available but will not be available in the short term..Monday, March 19, 2012
Access 200 and MSDE 2000
Are there any known issues with installing MSDE 2000 on a computer that
already has Access 2000 installed?
No. Many people have been running Access and SQL Server on the same
computer for years. As long as you meet the minimum hardware and
memory requirements you should be fine.

About server name and db name
Hi there,
Is there a way that I can change server name after
installing SQL 2000 database? I have tried to change my
server name, but the database server under SQL Server
Enterprise Manager still showed the old server name and
did not work at all. Is it possible to do it, since I want
to install the database as a different name first, and
then change it to the old DB server name to take place of
the old DB server? If there is a way, how?
Thanks in advance. I always get great helps here. Thanks
to all.
yunerUse the following script and then restart SQL Server:
DECLARE @.old_server_name SYSNAME
DECLARE @.new_server_name SYSNAME
SET @.old_server_name = '' -- Change names here
SET @.new_server_name = ''
IF @.old_server_name = '' OR @.new_server_name = ''
RAISERROR ('Server names not provided. Exiting now!!', 22, 127) WITH LOG
EXEC sp_dropserver @.server = @.old_server_name
EXEC sp_addserver @.server = @.new_server_name , @.local = 'LOCAL'
UPDATE msdb..sysjobs
SET originating_server = @.new_server_name
WHERE originating_server = @.old_server_name
